Our origins

Sundance Bay was founded in 2012 with an investment in two small multifamily assets. Since then, Sundance Bay has significantly expanded its multifamily portfolio and launched Senior Debt and Net Lease Investment verticals.

June Munshi is co-founder of The CenterCap Group, LLC, an investment banking firm focused on providing strategic capital and M&A advice to real estate companies, and advises the firm on Financial Sponsors relationships. Prior to forming The CenterCap Group, LLC, she was Co-Head of M&A and a Senior Managing Director with CB Richard Ellis Investors (CBRE’s investment management business). She joined CBREI in July 2007 to co-head the build out of the firm’s M&A efforts. From 1998-2007, June was a senior coverage banker in the real estate investment banking groups at Lehman Brothers and Wachovia Securities. During her career of over 25 years in the capital markets, June has been involved with over $35 billion of advisory assignments and executed over $15 billion of common equity, preferred equity and debt offerings for public REITs and closed end funds. She holds a B.A. in Economics and International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA in finance from Columbia Business School.

Andrew joins Sundance Bay from Clairmont Group in New York City, where he served as a Vice President. While there, he worked on acquisitions and property management of multifamily assets in the Tri-State area. He also assisted with raising equity and debt for various projects. Before working for Clairmont, Andrew was a Vice President at Zions Bank Real Estate Banking Group for eight years, devoting his time to creating synergy between Zions and clients pursuing commercial real estate financing. He was a department specialist in construction and development lending but also completed a large number of bridge and term loans secured by office, multifamily, retail, hospitality, GSA, MOB, industrial, and self-storage properties. Over the course of his career, Andrew has transacted on over $2 billion in commercial real estate assets. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah in Business Management and a Master’s Degree in Real Estate Development from Columbia University.

Ann Mastic is the Chief Compliance Officer and Controller for Sundance Bay. She has 30+ years of commercial real estate experience, is currently focused on overseeing Sundance Bay’s compliance program, and is the controller for the firm’s Sundance Bay Income and Growth and Sundance MHC Impact funds. Prior to joining Sundance Bay, Ann spent the past 20 years with Capri Capital Partners, LLC, most recently as Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer, overseeing the firm’s corporate and portfolio reporting functions. Previously she was a Senior Accountant with BDO Seidman in their real estate advisory group and held real estate-related accounting roles with AMDC and Hammond, Beeby and Babka in Chicago, Illinois. Ann has a B.S. in Accounting from Valparaiso University, is a certified public accountant, and is a member of the Illinois CPA Society.

Bogdan is the Director of Redevelopment for Sundance Bay and has over 13 years of experience in the multifamily redevelopment and investment industry. He previously served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Construction Officer for a national general contractor specializing in the value-add improvements of apartment communities. Bogdan is presently responsible for the strategic management of Sundance Bay’s multifamily portfolio, ranging from the acquisition process to tactically developing and conducting a redevelopment plan for our current and future assets.

Before joining Sundance Bay, Bryan practiced law on Wall Street at a premier investment management firm, Seward & Kissel LLP, in New York. He has over 15 years of experience representing institutional investors, state pension funds, private equity and hedge funds, family offices, banks, developers, and other clients in a broad range of sophisticated commercial real estate, corporate, and investment transactions. Bryan holds Juris Doctor from New York University School of Law and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Brigham Young University. Bryan is licensed to practice law in New York and Utah.

Conor started as the Director of Investments at Sundance Bay in August 2022 and is primarily responsible for running the debt capital markets and securing financing for the firm’s various fund management and real estate projects. Conor comes from Bridge Investment Group in Salt Lake City, UT, where he spent eight years in a similar capital markets role. During his tenure at Bridge, Conor facilitated debt transactions for dozens of commercial real estate transactions, totaling over $5 billion in loan commitments. Conor originated the various loan products, including fund-level acquisition facilities, subscription lines of credit, unsecured working capital lines, first-lien mortgages, mezzanine, A/B notes, and preferred equity secured by multi-family, retail, commercial office, industrial, development, and single-family for rent assets. Conor graduated from the Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah with a B.S. in Accounting.

Corey has over 13 years of real estate development and asset management experience. At Sundance Bay, Corey oversees asset management for the net lease, retail, industrial and medical office portfolio and works with joint venture partners through development, operations, and disposition. Prior to joining Sundance Bay in 2019, she managed over $1.8B of Class A commercial retail, multifamily, self-storage, and office assets at PGIM Real Estate. She worked as an analyst at Starwood Capital Group. Corey holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University.

Mr. Romney is a Co-Founder and Managing Director of Sundance Bay and has over 15 years of real estate development and investing experience. Prior to joining Sundance Bay, Craig was the Director of Marketing and a Senior Project Manager for Crossroads Realty Holdings, a San Diego-based real estate development firm. Craig previously worked in New York City for the advertising agency McGarry Bowen and oversaw the music production and licensing for commercials for Verizon, Chase, Disney, and Reebok, among other clients. He is one of the founders of Wool & Tusk, a music supervision company for Advertising, Film, and TV. Craig earned an undergraduate degree in Communications from Brigham Young University and a Master’s Degree in Real Estate Development from Columbia University.

Danny is the VP of Investments for Sundance Bay Debt Strategies. He oversees the analysis of market conditions, investment opportunities, and originates relationships. Previous experience in private real estate equity includes working for a fund specializing in mezzanine debt and preferred equity. He also has experience working for the Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration. Danny holds a dual major Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Economics from Brigham Young University. He later returned to his alma mater, graduating with a Master of Business Administration degree with an emphasis in Finance.

David has over 25 years of commercial and residential real estate investment experience and six years with Sundance Bay. Before working in real estate full-time, David was a CPA with Arthur Andersen & Co and Moss Adams in San Diego and Orange County, California, for ten years. In 1994, David and his family moved to Utah to actively pursue working in real estate. From 1994 to 2000, David partnered with Stan Ricks in the residential development business, building and selling about 300 townhomes and condominiums per year. David was principally responsible for all business and financial matters. From 2000 to 2004, David was the CFO of a technology startup company that was very successful and sold in 2004 to a larger company in the space. David then invested in and became the managing partner of 3 large Class A assisted living facilities in Arizona and Las Vegas (2004 to 2013). Upon selling the assisted living facilities, the collective investor money became part of the initial funding for Sundance Bay, led by Stan Ricks and Ryan Baughman. From 2013 to 2019, David assisted Sundance Debt Partners on a project-by-project basis until taking a full-time position in 2019. From 2013 to 2019, David’s principal business activity was operating a distressed townhome and condominium project struggling from the 2008 recession, followed by operating a distressed 1 million square foot office park. During David’s career experience, particularly in the assisted living business, he was responsible for originating and borrowing over $100MM in acquisition and permanent financing, heavily involved in distressed residential and commercial workouts. He managed all related legal matters on behalf of the various owners of the distressed projects.

Don manages Sundance Bay Multifamily’s day-to-day accounting and financial reporting functions. He has more than 30 years of planning, reporting, business development, and land acquisition experience in the construction and homebuilding industries. Previously, as the Vice President / Division Controller for Lennar Homes in the San Francisco Bay Area, managed budgets exceeding $500 million for some of the Bay Area’s premier new housing communities. Additionally, he worked at Granite Construction as the Corporate Director of Financial Planning and Reporting and as the Controller for their land company. While there, Larson managed a real estate investment portfolio with total assets exceeding $200 million. He has experience in joint venture agreements, risk analysis, and long-term strategic financial planning. Don has a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Utah and a Master of Business Administration degree with an emphasis in finance from Brigham Young University.

Eva has 25 plus years of Human Resources experience. Seventeen years was with Zions Bank as a VP, Human Resources Business Partner, and recent five years with EnerBankUSA as the VP and Manager of Human Resources. In both past roles, she has had a wide range of responsibilities in recruiting, benefits, compensation, training, and many other initiatives, such as DE&I. She is actively involved in community services and was instrumental with immigrant placement and transition with Catholic Community Services. She attended Westminster College, Utah State University, and finished her degree at the University of Warsaw, Poland.

Garrett joined Sundance Bay in July of 2022 as the Director of Multi-family Accounting. He holds a B.S. in Accounting along with an M.S. in Taxation from Arizona State University. Green is also an actively licensed CPA, with his license held in Arizona. He began his career at The Wolff Company, a real-estate private equity firm in Scottsdale, AZ. At The Wolff Company, he worked as a member of the in-house tax team. He dealt with a host of complex investment structures and tax issues during a time of tremendous growth in the firm’s EUM. He left The Wolff Company to become the Controller of UST, LLC, a private equity-held contract manufacturer. During his time at UST he was responsible for the company’s annual audit, budgeting, month-end reporting packages, assisting with multiple sell-side due diligence processes, the build-out of the accounting team, and many other special initiatives and process improvements. UST doubled it’s revenue to over $100M in his time as controller and eventually bought another manufacturer to help add capacity. Upon completing Equinox Nutra’s acquisition by UST, Garrett took over as the General Manager of Equinox Nutra where he had the opportunity to build out a new management team along with the implementation of numerous process improvements. He worked as the General Manager up until joining Sundance Bay.

Garrett is the Finance and Strategy Lead for Sundance Bay Debt Strategies. He is responsible for driving increased data awareness, supporting planning and investment decision-making, and enhanced analytics for management and investor relations. Garrett brings almost a decade of finance, analysis, and process improvement experience to Sundance Bay. Previously, Garrett was the Director of Finance and Accounting for Summit Vista, a Continuing Care Retirement Community in Taylorsville, Utah, managing financial strategy, budgeting, financial analysis, financial statement preparation, and investor relations. Prior to that, Garrett spent more than six years in Debt Capital Markets origination and syndication roles between ABN AMRO and GE Capital. He earned a Master of Finance degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan School of Management and a Bachelor’s in Economics from the US Naval Academy in Annapolis.

Gary has over 25 years of public and corporate accounting, tax, and information systems-related experience. Gary started his accounting career with Squire & Company CPAs, based in Utah, in audit and tax, specializing in the construction and mortgage industries and governmental and non-profit organizations. At Sundance Bay, Gary has worked with a range of accounting, tax, finance, and systems, helping with the initial start-up of Sundance Bay from inception in 2012. He currently works with the draw management processes, loan management systems, and special accounting and tax projects. Prior to working with Sundance Bay, Gary worked for 12 years as the Accounting Controller at Trophy Homes, a residential builder, and developer based in Utah, helping grow the company from 45 homes per year to over 300 homes per year and becoming one of the top 10 builders in Utah. He also worked as an Accounting Adjunct Professor for ten years with Utah Valley State College and during the transition to Utah Valley University. Gary holds a master’s degree in Accountancy from Brigham Young University.

Griffin Quick is the Vice President of Investor Relations for Sundance Bay. He oversees all investor communication across the Firm, including responding to investor due diligence questionnaires, managing internal and external investor reports/data, and serving as the main point of contact between Sundance Bay and existing & prospective investors. Previously, Griffin was the Director of Investor Relations at RealtyMogul, a Los Angeles-based private equity real estate investment platform focused primarily on multifamily equity syndications and non-exchange traded REITs. Prior to that, he was a Financial Advisor at Morgan Stanley in Irvine, CA. He earned his Master’s in Business Administration at the University of Utah, David Eccles School of Business, and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of California at Davis.

Jerred Nelson is the Director of Underwriting for Sundance Bay, responsible for the underwriting, management, and servicing of residential and commercial construction loans within the debt portfolio. Mr. Nelson has over 20 years of experience in residential and commercial real estate, most recently at Security National Life Insurance Co. as the Construction Loan Manager. She has over 20 years of experience in the construction industry, with more than 12 years directly related to construction draws and financing. Prior to her employment with Sundance Bay, she worked for Tri-Equity Management, LLC, Trophy Homes, LLC, and Hubble Homes, LLC, where she was involved in the financial oversight of single-family and multifamily residential construction throughout the state of Utah. Karin earned her bachelor’s degree from Utah Valley University. Karin is an avid reader in her spare time and enjoys spending time outdoors.

Kristin Olson is the Director of Asset Management, Multifamily for Sundance Bay, and has over 15 years of experience in the commercial real estate industry across most product types. Currently, she is responsible for the strategic management and performance of the company’s multifamily portfolio. Olson has participated in the acquisition, development, and asset management of real estate totaling over $3 billion in asset value. She most recently served as Vice President of Asset Management for Wood Partners, and her previous experience includes roles at companies such as Cousins Properties, CBRE, and EY. Kristin has a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and a Master of Science in Finance from the University of Florida. Olson was honored as one of 40 Gators Under 40 in 2020. She also serves on the Board of Directors for an Atlanta-based non-profit, Kate’s Club, which provides therapeutic support services for children and young adults who have lost a parent, sibling, or caretaker.

Lauren Lee, VP of Portfolio Management, joined Sundance Bay in 2022 and brought nearly a decade of finance, underwriting, asset, and portfolio management experience. Prior to joining Sundance Bay, Lauren was Vice President of Asset Management for the Opportunity Zone vertical at Bridge Investment Group (NYSE: BRDG), a $36 billion real estate investment firm located in Sandy, UT. Before Bridge, Lauren worked at ASB Real Estate Investments, a real estate investment management firm headquartered in Washington, D.C. her responsibilities focused on portfolio management of ASB’s $8 billion core-plus fund, concentrating on multifamily, industrial, retail, office, and self-storage assets. Lauren graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Ohio Wesleyan University and a Master of Real Estate from Georgetown University.

Marina Palmer is a Vice President of Asset Management, Multifamily for Sundance Bay. She oversees asset performance and management operations for the firm’s properties in Texas, Arizona, St. Louis, and Utah. Prior to joining Sundance Bay, Marina spent eight years at Peak Capital Partners as an Asset Manager, overseeing a portfolio of multifamily properties in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Nevada, Louisiana, Utah, and North Carolina. Marina has an extensive background in property management and on-site operations. She began her career in 1997 as a leasing agent for Prowswood/Bridge Property Management in Salt Lake City, Utah. Marina quickly progressed to Senior Vice President with Horizon Property Management/Cornerstone, responsible for on-site operations, capital projects, and property renovations. Marina studied at the University of Utah and SLCC, was a board member for the Utah Apartment Association, and was a member of IREM.

Mr. Maughan is the Managing Director of Sundance Bay Net Lease Investments and a Partner at Sundance Bay. He has over 17 years of experience in real estate investment and development. Mark launched the Net Lease Investment platform at Sundance Bay in 2016 and has co-developed over $475 million in projects during that time. Prior to joining Sundance, he was a Vice President at Hanover Financial, a real estate private equity fund based in Los Angeles, California. Before joining Hanover Financial, Mr. Maughan founded Summit Net Lease, where he syndicated private equity capital to develop single-tenant retail and industrial projects. Mr. Maughan holds a Bachelor of Arts from Brigham Young University and a Master of Real Estate Development from Arizona State University. He is an active member of ICSC.

Matt started as the Vice President of Self Storage Acquisitions at Sundance Bay in May 2023 and is primarily responsible for originating new investment opportunities. Matt comes from Extra Space Storage in Salt Lake City, UT, where he spent seven years in a similar acquisition and investments role. In 2019, Matt was selected out of the analyst pool to lead efforts in starting a bridge lending platform for Extra Space Storage, which reached over $1 billion invested by the end of 2022. During his time at Extra Space Storage, Matt personally originated and closed over $600 million investments including bridge loans and acquisitions. Matt graduated from the Brigham Young University’s Marriott School of Business with a B.S. in Finance.

Mr. Romney is a Co-Founder and Managing Director of Sundance Bay and has over 20 years of experience in real estate investing. Previously served as Senior Vice President of Capital Markets at Excel Trust, a publicly traded real estate investment trust (REIT) sold to Blackstone. Matt has participated in raising over $1 billion in equity and acquiring over $2 billion in real estate assets. Prior to Excel Trust, he held various marketing and management positions for Microsoft, Lavastorm, and Polaroid. Matt received an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and a B.A. from Brigham Young University. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Sabin Children’s Foundation, CalTier Realty (Advisory), Keystone National Group (Advisory), and Rady Children’s Hospital (Facilities Committee).

Mr. Nixon is a Managing Director and Partner with over ten years of real estate development and investing experience. He co-manages the Debt Fund and has been instrumental in helping while at Sundance Bay; he has helped grow the Debt Fund from $15M to over $850M in AUM, and Prior to joining Sundance Bay, he worked as a Sr. Associate in McKinsey and Company’s Houston office where he advised PE funds on investment strategy, developed and standardized operational controls at large infrastructure firms, designed construction and real estate investment strategy for a leading hospital chain, and redefined risk protocols for numerous Fortune 500 companies. Before McKinsey, Mike worked as a project manager for KBR, a leading Engineering and Construction firm. His work focused mainly on infrastructure and large oil and gas projects with worldwide scope and reach. Rebecca DeVries is the Controller responsible for the overall financial management of Sundance Bay Debt Strategies and Net Lease Investments, including its financial reporting, strategy & process innovation, and daily administration. She brings over ten years of operational and financial experience in the finance industry. Previously, Rebecca was the Corporate Controller for TPG Axon Management LP in New York City, overseeing budget planning & analysis, financial statement preparation, management reporting, and overall management company operation globally. Before that, Ms. DeVries undertook various roles at Barclays in governance & controls, financial process improvement, and fund accounting. She began her professional career as an auditor at Ernst & Young. Rebecca earned her degree in Accounting from The Pennsylvania State University Smeal College of Business.

Robert manages the Finance Technology Department at Sundance Bay, which includes oversight of the Information Technology infrastructure as well as software and data management platforms. He has more than fifteen years of experience leading teams to solve business problems and provide scalable technology solutions. Before joining Sundance Bay, Robert oversaw IT and led technology initiatives at PEG Companies, such as designing, building, and training on a proprietary asset management platform with cloud-based portal as well as key integrations between cloud data management systems. Prior to that, Robert trained and managed a team of five developers, a project manager and two system administrators at Bridge Investment Group a real estate investment and property management firm which grew from 3.7 billion AUM to over 20 billion AUM during the time he was there. Robert holds a master’s degree from the Marriott School of Business at Brigham Young University.

Roma Patel, the Principal, is the Chief Investment Officer of the Debt Opportunities Fund. She has acquired and/or asset managed over $1.4 billion in real estate assets throughout the United States. Previously, Roma served as a Principal at Declaration Partners and a Vice President of Acquisitions and Asset Management at Artemis Real Estate Partners. Prior to Artemis, Roma served as an Associate on the U.S. Real Estate acquisitions team at The Carlyle Group and began her investing career at Northwood Investors. Over her real estate private equity career, she has invested broadly across the capital stack in commercial real estate property types, including multifamily, office, retail, industrial, and healthcare – and across geographies ranging from the East Coast, Midwest, Sunbelt, and the West Coast. Roma graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business (B.S. Economics) and has a Masters in Design Studies from Harvard University Graduate School of Design (MDes Real Estate). Roma currently serves as a Vice Chair of the Suburban Development and Redevelopment Council for the Urban Land Institute.

Mr. Baughman is a Co-Founder and Managing Director of Sundance Bay and has over 20 years of real estate investing, development, and management experience. During his career, Baughman has acquired over $1B of previously managed over $300 million in single-family and multifamily development projects in the Washington DC, New York City, and Austin, TX regions for Toll Brothers and an NYC private equity firm. Additionally, he founded and is an owner of Sundance Debt Strategies, a real estate debt fund that provides short-term financing secured by real estate-related assets. He also founded and managed Sundance Capital Group, a single-family investment platform that purchased, renovated, and managed single-family holdings around the country. Mr. Baughman holds a Bachelor’s in English from Brigham Young University and a Master’s in Real Estate Development from Columbia University.

Shaun is a loan closer at Sundance Bay, responsible for closing, servicing, and portfolio management. He has 20 years of experience in commercial real estate financing, having worked at private and public lending institutions. Nielson has closed over $750 million of loan originations and has extensive knowledge and understanding of the closing process from loan approval, documentation, and closing with borrowers, attorneys, and title companies. Shaun holds a Bachelor of Accounting from the University of Utah and a Utah Division of Real Estate appraisal trainee certification.

Mr. Ricks is a Co-Founder and Managing Director of Sundance Bay, and he has over 30 years of real estate development and investing experience. During his career, he has bought, sold, managed, leased, built, and capitalized on over $500 million in real estate ventures. Ricks was formerly the CEO of Trophy Homes, where Ricks built over 2,000 homes during his tenure with the company. He is a current owner and/or investor in office buildings, retail centers, mobile home parks, residential land, and multifamily properties. Additionally, Ricks has been an early investor in several start-up companies such as Omniture, Zuka Juice, and Altius Health Plan. Stan received his bachelor’s in Estate and Financial Planning from Brigham Young University, where he taught from 2000 to 2011 as an adjunct professor teaching advanced real estate development and investing courses.

Steve has over fifteen years of real estate valuation and investment experience and has been with Sundance Bay since 2020. Prior to Sundance Bay, Steve spent four years with Phillips Edison and PREP Property Group, overseeing due diligence for acquisitions, dispositions, and property management for over $300MM in transaction value. Early in his career, he spent eight years as a commercial real estate appraiser valuing retail, residential development, industrial, office, and investment properties. Steve also has brokerage experience with Newmark, where he represented domestic and international clients with leasing and property acquisition. Steve holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance and an M.B.A from the University of Utah.
